United sets up to tee off

WASHINGTON, D.C. - United for D.C., the non-profit arm of D.C. United, announced today details of the Sixth Annual United Celebrity Golf Tournament, presented by Geico, R&R Catering and United Bank. Golfers will gather at Raspberry Falls Golf and Hunt Club in Leesburg, Virginia for a 1:30 p.m. ET shotgun start on Monday, June 18. Participants in this year's event will play alongside current and former United players and coaches as well as a host of other local sports and media celebrities, all while raising money for United for D.C.

"A host of area golfers and United supporters target this event each summer," said Sara Rabe, Program Manager for United for D.C. "We have ambitious goals for this sixth running of the tournament, but we expect great things from our largest fundraiser of the year. We're excited to be partnering with Geico, R&R Catering and United Bank to put on a first-class event at Raspberry Falls Golf and Hunt Club."

Geico, R&R Catering and United Bank have signed on as presenting sponsors of the golf tournament. Anheuser-Busch is a hole sponsor and will donate an assortment of beer products throughout the day. Papa John's, Verizon Wireless and The Washington Examiner have purchased foursomes for the tournament.

Companies and other organizations still have the opportunity to join forces with United for D.C. as a sponsor of this event. Sponsorship opportunities are available, which include a foursome, ranging from $5,500 as presenting sponsor to $2,000 as a one-hole sponsor. Groups may donate $900 to form a foursome, to be paired with a fifth player, that being a celebrity, and individuals may participate by donating $250 for a playing slot. Participants in the tournament will each receive a gift package, as well as complimentary lunch and dinner and unlimited beverages throughout the day. They will also have the opportunity to buy raffle tickets and mulligans and bid on an array of silent auction items. Team prizes will be given for first, second, third and last place teams.
