WASHINGTON, D.C. - D.C. United, with promotional assistance from Comcast SportsNet, announced today plans to collect school supplies throughout of the month of September to benefit United For D.C., the charitable foundation of D.C. United. Fans who donate an item will receive a "Buy One, Get One Free" ticket voucher, good for any 2006 D.C. United regular season home game and a D.C. United promotional item. Items will be collected at United's two September home games - Sept. 9 v. Real Salt Lake and Sept. 23 v. the New York Red Bulls.
"Our United Drives programs have been more successful than ever, this season," said United Sr. Vice president Stephen Zack. "We hope that our loyal fans will continue to support this worthwhile initiative by brining school supplies to the games played at RFK Stadium this month."
United for D.C. helps to create and support area programs that provide improvement in the educational and social welfare of disadvantaged youth. The school supplies United Drives collects during the month will be distributed to the four elementary schools that participate in United Reads: Payne Elementary (Ward 6), Smothers Elementary (Ward 7), Howard Road Academy (Ward 8) and Birney Elementary (Ward 8).
United Drives donations are accepted at every D.C. United home game at RFK Stadium. The collection bin is location outside Gate A and is open from two hours prior to the game until 15 minutes after kick-off. Donations are also accepted in the D.C. United offices, located on the fourth floor at RFK Stadium's Gate A. This season marks the sixth year of the United Drives campaign which collects a different item each month to benefit D.C.-area non-profit organizations.
